NMP or the organic compound N-Methyl 2-Pyrrolidone consists of a 5 membered lactam and is a colorless liquid. NMP is better known as a key ingredient in a variety of coating and paint removers, and can also be found in some adhesives, cleaners, dyes, inks, and pesticides. It is miscible with water and with most common organic solvents. It is used in the petrochemical and plastics industries as a solvent, exploiting its nonvolatility and ability to dissolve diverse materials.
