It is also used in cleaning fluids and as a starting material to make other chemicals. Methyl Ethyl Ketone is also a natural product found in some fruits, vegetables and other foods. It is present in smoke from burning tobacco, wood or engine fuels. Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK) also is used as an extraction medium for fats, oils, waxes and resins. It is a highly efficient and versatile solvent for surface coatings.
