Dibutyl phthalate is a phthalate ester that is the diester obtained by the formal condensation of the carboxy groups of phthalic acid with two molecules of butan-1-ol.

Dibutyl phthalate, found in cloves, is a commonly used plasticizer. It is also used as an additive to adhesives or printing inks and is soluble in various organic solvents such as alcohol, ether, and benzene. Dibutyl Phthalate can also be used as an ectoparasiticide.
